Fishing around the Narooma Bermagui area this week was slowed by big seas and strong winds. But good weather on the weekend allowed locals to go after flathead and reef fish outside.

The kingfish continue to be hit and miss with charter skipper Matt Betts only getting two legal kingfish on the weekend, but one of those was 97cm, and some nice reefies too.
Bermi Bait and Tackle reports that the marlin bite off Tuross on the weekend was exceptional with some boats catching up to four fish and seeing up to 30 fish feeding on bait balls. “All really nice sized late season fish but definitely a great late season bite.” 9 year old Caitlin Schofield on Saturday landed a cracking tuna which is a pending Australian record and tagging a marlin with her dad. This was one of a couple of nice yellowfin to around 60kg.
Also the newly re-established Batemans Bay Marine Park Advisory Committee will hold its third meeting this Saturday, May 28 to continue working to ensure the marine estate is a popular drawcard for visitors and locals in the region. Issues regarding the management or use of the estate can be discussed with a committee member via email batemans@dpi.nsw.gov.au or go to www.marine.nsw.gov.au
Now here is the Narooma Sport and Game Fishing Report:
Pete Rando and club president Les Waldock took the girls fishing on the weekend up past the power lines on Wagonga Inlet. They had a great mornings fishing catching tailor, salmon, snapper, bream and trevally, only keeping one salmon.
Fish were caught on both slimy mackerel bait and trolling minnow lures. Lots of bait on the sounder in Forsters Bay where all boats were catching tailor on both soft plastics and trolling lures. It seems to me that the back of president Les Waldock’s boat is the place to be for the younger members with young Lauren McNamara catching some nice fish from it. The catch of the day must go to Margie Ingamells with a small snapper.
John Cathor with a Mahi Mahi of nearly 17 kgs caught from Pete Vaughans boat 'Black Pearl'on Sunday during the Canberra Yellowfin Tournament. Members and guest are reminded this Friday, May 27 is a $3 burger night at the club so bring your friends and family for a fun night.
As usual the Narooma Sport and Gamefishing Club rooms, situated on the inlet near the restaurants, will be open for fish stories and tall tales about the big one that got away, drinks and snacks from 4pm till 9pm on Friday.
