Residents reported hearing a series of loud bangs on the street before they rushed outside to find a Toyota Corolla had rolled and landed in the front yard of a house near the intersection of Belloc Close and Vidal Street in Wetherill Park just before 8pm on Monday.

Behind the wheel of the crumpled car was Rhonda Audisho, 17, understood to have been a year 12 student who also worked in a nearby McDonald's restaurant.

Two other passengers in the car, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, were able to climb free from the wreckage.

A resident who lives nearby said he went outside immediately after the crash to find a number of teenagers running around. One looked inside the driver's window seconds after the crash and immediately clutched his head.

"He just put his hands on his head when he saw what had happened to the driver," the witness told 2GB.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived within minutes but could not save Rhonda, who is believed to have suffered major head injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and say the Toyota may have been travelling with a Black Mazda 3 in the moments before the crash.

The second vehicle was being driven by a 19-year-old woman, with two passengers, aged 15 and 16, on board, police said.

"Early indications are that the incident may not have been street-racing related, however a number of avenues of inquiry are being investigated to determine the circumstances surrounding how the crash occurred," police said in a statement, adding that no charges had been laid.

Rhonda's friends posted tributes to her online, describing their shock at her death.

"Rhonda what can I say I'm speechless you were with us today and now you are gone," a friend, Natalie, wrote on Facebook.

Another friend, Yvette, posted online that "words cannot explain how broken i am right now, waking up to the worst news of your passing last night".

"I saw you driving yesterday and you looked so happy and it made me smile because you grew up to be a very gorgeous good girl, you don't understand how much I'm going to miss you," Yvette wrote.

"May you Rest In Peace sweet angel. Rest now, i love you so much."

Another friend, Nico, said: "This goes to show the fragility of life and how everyone should be very careful as unexpected things happen in every moment. May you rest in peace and i hope that you're in a better place."

The 14-year-old boy in Rhonda's car was taken hospital with minor injuries, while the other passenger was not injured, police said. They have both spoken to police, as have the people in the Mazda.
