“And that is exactly why we want to have it here,” he said.
“This festival is all about art and culture that is on the edge.
“We have many artists like this and they don’t have a platform, and this will give them a platform,” Mr Belk said.
The festival will be held on September 23-25.
Artists, organisers, backing businessmen and women, Eurobodalla Shire Council representatives and other interested people gave plenty of hope of a successful festival when they turned up in big numbers at JJs at Batemans Bay Marina on Friday night for a information night and get-together.
“Batemans Bay can seem conservative at a surface level most of the time, but we have definitely tapped a rich undercurrent that seems like it cant be held back now,” Mr Belk said.
Melissa Donnelly lit up the night sky with some fire-twirling and fire breathing while eccentric keyboard player Clive Dorein and guitarist Wynta Cullen were among those who provide the music.
Air DJ Bbiff and his apprentice Boof got worked invisible tunes on invisible decks.
There is also a more practical purpose for the festival.
“The festival is being set-up as the coursework for students doing a university entrance program with South Coast Careers College and Uni Wollongong,” Mr Belk said.
“It's quite a different approach to learning.”
