Mr Shoebridge’s comments come from a detailed opinion piece the Greens MP has written for the Illawarra Mercury.
The Greens have a bill calling for mandated minimums on steel for government projects, which opponents have claimed would violate free trade agreements.
“Then how is it that the United States, Canada, the UK and many European countries have in place policies that favour local steel for use in public infrastructure projects?” Mr Shoebridge said.
Mr Shoebridge’s opinion column appears on the Illawarra Mercury website.
