The High Heelers had a stellar year and finished atop the ladder as minor premiers and were awarded a week off.
Meanwhile, their nearest rivals in the Bega Chicks had to contend with the Narooma She-Devils in Sunday’s qualifying grand finals.
A 18-10 result in Bega’s favour means the High Heelers will meet the Chicks in major semi-final, while the She-Devils get a last-ditch chance against the Moruya Sharkettes in Eden on Saturday.
The High Heelers shaped as a competition favourite early with some upset wins over the Bega and Narooma outfits and have since flourished as the front-runners throughout the season.
The squad boasts a solid attacking line-up, but most impressively the best defensive figures of any team, conceding more than 40 points less than Bega and 70 points less than Narooma.
The Bega team statistically boasts the best attacking line-up, but it will be on the Chicks to provide their strongest game of the year to get around the seemingly impenetrable wall of the High Heelers.
Sunday’s game will be a pinnacle match for the women’s competition and should be explosive.
The reserve Blue Heelers pushed through against the Moruya Sharks to earn a berth in the major semi with a resounding 34-18 result.
They will now face the minor premier Bega Roosters in a clash to be held at Moruya’s Ack Weyman Oval for a grand final spot.
The Blue Heelers will be full of go on the back of a gritty win in an extremely physical contest dominated by the big front-row.
It will be another power struggle through the middle on Sunday with both teams boasting strong forward packs and exceptional halves combinations.
The difference could come out of standout centre Ben Mooney, who scored a double against the Sharks.
Bombala hooker Kurt Lomas is also a great danger player able to make runs out of dummy-half and scoring himself a try against Moruya over the weekend.
Bega number six Clay Child will be one to look out for after stepping up big in the first grade qualifier on Sunday.
Look out for a bone-crunching contest in the ruck with women’s and reserves to run in Moruya on Sunday with league-tag to run from 10.30am.
