Bombala High School athlete, Keiarna Rodwell has recently returned from the NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) Athletics Carnival where she competed in the discus, coming 14th in the 17+ years category.

It was the ninth time that I have dislocated my shoulder

It was an outstanding effort by Keiarna who had dislocated her should playing Ladies League Tag only weeks before the state competition.
“It was the ninth time that I have dislocated my shoulder,” Keiarna said.
Keiarna started throwing shotput and discus in Year five at Bombala Public School where she was coached by Rick and Terrie Ingram and since then has competed a number of times at state competitions.
From the school carnival Keiarna progressed through to the zone competition where she came first in discus and shotput advancing her to the regional carnival in Canberra. At the regional’s, Keiarna came second in the discus throwing a PB and in the shotput event she came fifth.
This year she was the 17+ years Bombala High School athletics champion saying that she competes in every event in her age group at the school athletics carnival.
Keiarna has played representative netball for the Sapphire Coast with the team coming second in Division 4 in 2014.
“I played Goal Defence and dislocated my shoulder for the first time playing netball in Goulburn,” she said.
Keiarna also played basketball in the town competition for many years and played League Tag for the U15 Eden Tigers. She played one season with the Eden Tigers Ladies League Tag team before Bombala got the High Heelers up and running a few of years ago.
“I was the youngest player to represent Bombala in the Group 16 Ladies League Tag.”
Keiarna has three brothers – Keiren, Adam and her twin brother Ky.
“Mum never wanted us kids to play football but three out of the four play it now,” Keiarna said.
Eldest brother Keiren Rodwell has represented NSW in the U18s Country Basketball championships and has also represented Bombala High for many years in athletics at a state level.
Keiarna’s second eldest brother, Adam has captained the Great Southern Stars U16s Rugby League two years ago and was nominated as Rookie of the Year for first grade with the Eden Tigers.
Keiarna’s twin, Ky plays with South Sydney Juniors and has signed a contract to play with South Sydney seniors. Ky also has recently played for the NSW CHS U18s rugby league team on a national level in Brisbane and is about to head off to New Zealand to play for the NSW CHS U17s national team.
