President of the Delegate Progress Association, Penelope Judge said the grey clouds and persistent rain cleared and the bright sunshine outside echoed the vibrancy of the exhibitions inside.
“The exhibition in the Bundian Way Gallery is the culmination of work by the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and the exhibition Wonder Inspiration and The Bundian Way showcases artwork inspired by the children’s visits to the area and workshops led by Pauline Syron Coxon of Berridale,” she said.
As well as works by the Monaro children there are works by Pauline Syron Coxon, Peter Swain, Maureen Fox and Jandamarra Wall.
“There are many stories visualised and told in this exhibition,” Mrs Judge said.
Peter Swain started proceedings playing the didgeridoo before Jandamarra Wall acknowledged country and coordinator of the Bundian Way project, John Blay spoke about the progress of the Bundian Way walking track.
Pauline Syron Coxon then gave an outline of the education program and Peter Swain spoke about his role in the exhibition and the story behind the boomerangs on display.
The exhibition was then officially opened by local MP Mike Kelly who praised the efforts of all involved both in this art project and the entire Bundian Way project.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council economic development and tourism manager, Karen Cash said the work at the new exhibition was uplifting.
“Dr Kelly spoke at length of the many benefits that the Bundian Way will bring to the Aboriginal people and the local area and restated his commitment to the project.
“He said he was really looking forward to walking the track,” Ms Cash said.
After the Bundian Way exhibition was opened, patron of the Borderline Gallery, Bob Stewart officially opened their new exhibition, a celebration of spring by local artists that showcases local school children’s works.
