NSW fishers are in for a great long weekend on the water, with the official opening of the State’s trout season on Saturday. Fishing restrictions during the spawning period has allowed the species to travel up rivers and streams to breed and replenish numbers. Wild trout numbers have been boosted by a series of planned releases during the 2016-17 fish stocking season, with about 2.9 million trout and salmon released across the state. Recreational fishing in trout streams closes on Monday, June 12, 2017.
