Organisers of the festival celebrating the cultural and artistic diversity of Wollongong hope mother nature will be kinder on November 12 when the full free event takes over MacCabe Park, Wollongong.
Coordinator Cultural Services Megan McKell said this year would see a larger emphasis on Illawarra based musicians, artists and circus performers.
“Viva La Gong was the 2014 winner of the Arts and Culture award for Festivals and has been your community and arts festival since 2000,” Ms McKell said.
“It’s a great day [to] ... celebrate our local artists, performers and enjoy the wonderful foods and art events we have on offer.”
Paralympian and circus performer Sarah Houbolt will be one of the big drawcard who will join local stars like the Glamma Rays, Christian Powers and Lonesome Train and Sandon Groves.
The main stage will host 17 local and national performers while the community stage will be home to dance troupes, choirs, singers and the Conservatorium Jazz Ensemble.
In the Creative Zone, festival-goers can learn worm farming, how to play a ukulele, learn to create origami flowers or use the bicycle-powered turntable to create spin-out art.
