Every year over 100,000 car lovers descend on Canberra. With more than 2000 cars already entered, Summernats 30 will simply be the most epic ever.
The spectacular City Cruise gets the celebrations underway, as thousands of Canberrans watch the impressive display of colourful muscle machines rumble down Northbourne Ave and officially open the event.
One of the highlight events is the Summernats Burnout Masters, the tyre shredding grand final of the national series. There are plenty of other high octane activities including the Horsepower Heroes dyno comp, the Go to Whoa, Grass Driving Events, cruising on Tuff Street, Miss Summernats and a huge music line-up.
Importantly, Summernats also crowns the Street Machine Summernats Grand Champion, Australia’s most prestigious automotive award.
“Summernats is a real Aussie institution, and we reckon everyone in our scene is totally pumped to be celebrating the 30th,” co-owner Andy Lopez said.
“We’ve got more cars than ever, and that’s going to be a pretty awesome sight. We can’t wait to celebrate the big birthday with our car loving mates from all over Australia.”
International attention for the event continues to grow, with special guests at Summernats 30 including stars of the Discovery Channel’s hit TV show, Street Outlaws. Hosts ‘Azn’ and ‘Farmtruck’ will head out for their first Nats’ experience. They’re joined by the team from 1320Video, arguably the largest online racing video channel in the world, to take the message of this fantastic Aussie car culture to the world.
As the sun goes down each night and the roar of the engines subside, music of a different kind will take over. This year the concert line-up includes Aussie urban superstars Drapht and Spit Syndicate on Friday, and Aussie rockers Airbourne and Thirsty Merc set to rock the Summernats stage on Saturday night.
The Street Machine Summernats is supported by Rare Spares and is being held on January 5-8, 2017. Tickets and more information is available at www.summernats.com.au
