The two semi finals played out like chalk and cheese with the Merimbula Dolphins taking the sword to their club mates, the Merimbula Magic in semi final one.
Leading the way for the Dolphins was Gary Vale who set up an all rinks victory to secure a grand final position. Vale released the pressure on his Dolphin Team mates allowing Jeff Martin and Wayne Woods to secure their pairs match while Ray Fox, Brent Daly and Norm Pinne secured the triples game.
In the other semi final pre-event, favourites the Bega Bobcats found themselves on their heels against a determined Tathra Tanks outfit.
The Tathra squad had only just qualified for finals but were coming off an impressive win at Cooma the week before which had obviously boosted confidence within their ranks.
In a close tussle where scores changed hands on several occasions, it came down to Terry Wilson to draw the shot within one foot of the jack to win the game, which he did advancing his squad to the grand final.
In the final the Dolphins carried on from the semi through the early ends as they opened up a double figure lead. With the Dolphins Jeff Martin securing his first singles set 13-3 signs were ominous.
At the half way mark however Tathra rallied. With singles player Alan Thatcher reversing the roles and John Chalker instigating in a spirited fight back in his pairs game, the tables turned rapidly.
Over the closing ends a couple of good draw shots from Chalker along with a well executed running shot from the star of the morning, Terry Wilson saw Tathra run away with the title to win their second crown.
In the ladies final it was the Merimbula Sapphires who dominated the match from end one. Led by Gerry Nott and her triples team of Marg Phillistin and Emma Pettit, the Sapphires were ruthless as they opened up a 20 shot lead in the opening stages.
The Sapphires opposition Eden stuck to their guns over the remainder of the game defeating Tura to make the final, in the end the Sapphires secured Merimbula’s second consecutive title.
