Basil John Garbutt, 75, faced Bombala Local Court on Tuesday, December 6, entering guilty pleas to 17 separate charges relating to weapons in his possession.
He had been charged with five counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, five counts of possessing an unregistered firearm, and seven counts of not storing a firearm safely.
The magistrate imposed fines of $300 for each offence, totalling $5100.
He was also ordered to take the firearms to a licensed dealer to be sold on consignment to a licensed owner within three months. If that order was not followed, the guns would be forfeited to the Crown.
The five guns for which Garbutt did not hold the correct licence included a Hawken .50 caliber black powder rifle as well as another British-made black powder rifle, a Marlin 22 lever action rifle, a 303 jungle carbine and a flintlock pistol.
Meanwhile, also in Bombala Local Court on Tuesday, Delegate man William McCurley was sentenced to 100 hours community service for weapons charges.
McCurley pleaded guilty to the five charges – two of possessing an unregistered firearm, one of posessing an unauthorised firearm, one of not storing firearm safely and one of possessing ammunition without authority.
He was also ordered to forfeit the weapons.
