“The community of the former Snowy River is a richer place for John’s many years of service. John has worked hard to accomplish so many achievements throughout his service both as councillor and mayor. John has always been a passionate man who represented the best interests of his community, advocating not only for his Shire but the whole Region,” Snowy Monaro Regional Council administrator, Dean Lynch said.

Mr Cahill was elected for his first term as a councillor at the Snowy River Shire Council in 2004. Mr Cahill was elected mayor in 2008 and held this position until the merger was handed down by the state government in May 2016.

In 2012, Mr Cahill became the first and only popularly elected mayor in the history of the Snowy River Shire Council. Mr Cahill continued to serve the community post-merger as an active member on the Snowy River LRC.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside John throughout his service to the Snowy River community. On behalf of staff and the community I offer John our sincere thanks for his many years of service and wish him well as he returns his focuses back to the family farm,” general manager, Joseph Vescio said.

A new Snowy River LRC member has been selected and Council is excited to announce that local Berridale business owner and active community member, Mrs Annie O’Keeffe, has graciously accepted the position.

“I would like to welcome Annie, who many may already know as the Berridale postmistress, or from one of the many community committee’s that she serves upon. An already extremely active community member, Annie was the perfect choice to help represent the former Snowy River area communities on the LRC as we continue to work through this transitional period,” administrator Lynch said.
