The board members were voted in and planning has now begun, with the first project to be the construction of a primary racetrack for the Snowy-Monaro region.
It was a much anticipated kick-off for founder John Graham, who was excited to set the wheels in motion.
Mr Graham was elected president and was hopeful the club would continue to grow, despite a small turn out at the first meeting,
“Interest in the club continues to increase each week with people from across the region signing up,” he said.
Interested community members are encouraged to register their interest by adding their contact details to one of the many sign-up sheets located across the region.
“At this stage we are just asking people to register their interest, so we can keep them informed as the club and track development progresses,” Mr Graham said.
Three locations across the region are currently being considered by the board for the placement of the club’s racetrack, including at Jindabyne.
There are a number of factors and elements to be reviewed throughout the selection process and this is being undertaking with the assistance of BMX Australia.
Once a formal proposal has been agreed upon the club will make an announcement.
The club’s vice-president Mike Daly said the group would begin fundraising for the track this year.
“We’re keen to get the community involved and will be calling for sponsorship,” he said.
“The whole focus is to get BMX racing happening in the Snowy Mountains.”
Mr Daly said anyone is welcome to join the club once it is up and running, as it will be organising races for ages from three to 70.
There will also be club events and training.
“BMX is an inclusive sport that promotes a healthy lifestyle, is family friendly and continues to grow in popularly since its inclusion in the Olympics,” Mr Daly said.
“The Snowy Monaro region is home to some of the most talented sportspeople in the world. We see BMX as being one of our next big drawcards to a region that known is for its year-round adventure activities.”
