Snowy Monaro Regional Council has put a new fee for a “Wheel In Wheel Out” waste and recycling service out for public exhibition and comment.
The proposal, optional for anyone currently receiving council rubbish and recycling services, will see council staff retrieving, emptying and returning red, yellow and green bins on the nominated collection days.
It’s thought it could be of particular help to infirm or elderly residents unable to wheel their bins to the kerb themselves – and exemptions from the fee will remain for eligible residents. For businesses or other ratepayers choosing to opt in to the elective “wheel in, wheel out” service, an annual additional charge of $888 will be added to the resident's rates notice.
For each resident participating, this service would include 52 services per year for the red waste bin, 26 a year for the yellow recycling bin and paper crate (where provided), and 26 services a year for the green organics bins (where provided).
The proposed fee will be on public exhibition for a period of 28 days, starting today (Wednesday, January 11) and concluding on Wednesday, February 8.
It is intended for this service to be available from March 1, subject to comments and feedback received during the exhibition period, and council approval.
All comments on the fee proposal should be made in writing and addressed to the General Manager, Snowy Monaro Regional Council, PO Box 714, Cooma, NSW 2630.
