Billy kart derby
After a highly successful inaugural running of the Monaro Billy Kart Derby in January 2016, the organisers and Cooma Car Club are staging the second running of this event from 10am Sunday, January 22, at Cooma Showground.
There were 27 entries in 2016, and the organisers are anticipating 40 entries this year. The event is being supported by Cooma Car Club, the Cooma Police and Cooma Fire Brigade.
There is a wide range of age groups ranging from 5-8 years, up to +18 years as well as categories for Businesses and Novelty entries. All carts will be classified as either ‘Traditional’ meaning of traditional wooden construction with rope steering or ‘Modern’.
Entry forms should be filled in and left at Rose’s Restaurant Cooma, at Cooma Car Club clubhouse on January 21 during the Billy Cart Safety Day, or at the Showground at 9am on Sunday morning, January 22.
All entrants are required to attend the Saturday billy cart safety day at Cooma Car Club clubhouse, 2 Bolaro St, Cooma between 11am and 2pm for a cart safety check and to check that they have all the required safety gear including helmet, gloves, elbow guards and so on.
On the Sunday, marshalling will commence 15 minutes before each run, and the first run will commence at 10am.
The derby is a single vehicle timed event meaning that each cart will be released from the starting gate one at a time, and there will be no side by side racing.
Depending on the number of entries, each contestant will have a minimum of three timed runs.
There is no charge for spectators. Food and (non-alcoholic) drink will be available.
