The CRC has been designed to deal with troublesome items such as gas bottles, liquid paints, fluoro tubes, smoke alarms, household batteries and motor oils. The CRC will ensure that these items are dealt with in the correct, environmentally safe way – ensuring that our landfills are safe for future generations.
Thanks to the CRC, the longevity of the Jindabyne Landfill will also be increased. I encourage everyone in the Jindabyne area to make full use of the centre as it is a great asset and something that will benefit the community for many years to come.
To help you with recycling and removing waste even more, council will be introducing the Bulka Bags system. In the not too distant future, we will have some large bags available for purchase that are great for removing waste from around the home.
For instance, you may be renovating your bathroom and might need to remove some tiles - then these bags will be prefect for you. The Bulka Bags, once full, will be collected by council so that these items can be removed. This system will also be beneficial for property owners who don’t live in the area and have, for example, green waste for collection but are unable to deliver it to their local transfer station.
Many of you came to us with this problem, and I am proud that we are in the process of developing a concept that will be useful to the community. Watch this space – more detailed information will be provided shortly.
On another exciting note, council is looking forward to holding Australia day celebrations across the Cooma and Jindabyne regions on Thursday, with the Bombala celebrations being held on Saturday.
Nearly every community in the region is holding a celebration and it is great to see the Snowy Monaro region getting into the spirit and enjoying what it means to be Australian. There will be lots of fun activities and entertainment for everyone, so please make sure you have a look at council’s website to find out all the details.
