Mr Gillis, an experienced three-star eventer, talented rider and specialised instructor conducted 15 private lessons and one group lesson for club members.
A spokesperson for the Delegate Pony Club said that Mr Gillis mainly focused on control technique and jumping during the Saturday lessons.
“Many of the riders attending the weekend’s classes opted to camp out at the showground so they were ready nice and early for the special rally on Sunday.
“Sunday morning began with an early lesson with Peter. The 23 riders were briefed before being split into four groups according to their riding ability.
“Peter then took each of the groups through an hour session on rhythm, pace, control and jumping,” the spokesperson said.
Delegate Pony Club instructor Rowena Butterworth ran an unmounted session using baling twine and a blindfold where one rider was the horse who was blindfolded and with twine around their hands, while another rider steered and controlled them.
Gail Smallman worked with another group on riding and lead classes while Nadean White took a group and ran them through braiding and plaiting for showing.
“With the up and coming shows it was a great opportunity to take advantage of locals who have plenty of experience in these fields and the riders learnt so much and had fun learning,” the spokesperson said.
