On Saturday morning members gathered at the fire station and met with the instructors for a briefing before the days practical sessions on motor vehicle accidents began.
Bombala’s acting deputy captain, Malcolm Lavender said they started with technical information and comparisons about modern cars as opposed to older makes of vehicles.
“Safety features in motor vehicles has changed quite significantly over the last five years.
“It is really important for our safety and the safety of the patient to be aware of modern features such as airbags.
“We practiced hands on practical exercises and went through some different scenario’s of retrieving patients from vehicles,” Lavender said.
On Sunday the crew spent most of the day at the Rural Fire Service (RFS) Training Facility in Jonas Street.
The day started with a safety briefing and equipment check and achieved accreditation for work safety at heights.
Acting deputy captain Lavender said that a lot of Fire and Rescue work in Bombala was post incident working at heights.
“This allows us time to make sure our procedures and systems are set,” he said.
Bombala’s Fire and Rescue station commander, Terry Lomas said that Fire and Rescue were very fortunate to have such a good working relationship between inter-agency emergency services and thanked the local RFS for the use of their training facilities over the weekend.
“I would also like to thank Shoalhaven station officer Sean Doohan for helping us out with our recruitment campaign last week and Technical Rescue instructors Christian Jans and Daniel Johanson for their help,” station commander Lomas said.
The Bombala truck and firefighters will be at Saturday’s Rotary markets so pop by and have a chat with them.
