The Maclaughlin River had almost ceased flowing last week and without the water release from Lake Wallace Dam, Council would have been required to place Nimmitabel residents on Level 3 Water Restrictions to ensure supply demands could be met.
“Thankfully we have this critical piece of infrastructure in place to secure the water supply for Nimmitabel, allowing us to avoid water restrictions at this time,” Snowy Monaro Regional Council administrator Dean Lynch said.
Water is being released from Lake Wallace at a rate of 15Litres/sec. With Lake Wallace currently at 95 per cent capacity, water is able to be released into the Maclaughlin River until river flows improve or until drought management triggers council to preserve storage water levels in the Dam.
All consumers are requested to be water conscious and to be mindful of their water usage at all times.
