It was great to attend the fourth birthday celebrations last week of the Cooma Universities Centre, now known as the Snowy Monaro Universities Centre. The centre has become a leading regional player in tertiary education, providing an opportunity for students to live and study locally. Well done to the centre’s staff and board for their ongoing efforts in creating such a fantastic facility for the region.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council has many wonderful female employees across all its operations, and last Wednesday their service to the community was recognised as part of International Women’s Day.
On Monday I was fortunate to join the Member for Monaro, John Barilaro, and Snowy Monaro Regional Council general manager, Joe Vescio, for the handing over of cheques to a number of the successful grant recipients through the Stronger Communities Fund. In total 20 worthwhile projects will become a reality and it was great to reconnect with members of the Monaro Equestrian Association, Raglan Gallery and Cultural Centre, Adaminaby Bowling and Sports Club, and the Cooma Youth Hub. More than $300,000 was handed out in this latest round of grants with projects right across the Snowy Monaro funded.
I recently attended a meeting with Jindabyne Central Schools principal Steve Cooper and P&C president Steve Wallis to discuss plans ensuring the safety of school students while upgrades are taking place to Snowy River Avenue. It was a productive meeting.
