The Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the NSW Government has allocated $1.27 million to install safety barriers and increase the shoulder width on a 2.5 kilometre section of Highway about 35 kilometres west of Adaminaby.
“Safety improvements on this stretch of the Snowy Mountains Highway were identified after 15 crashes, resulting in 11 injuries, in the five years to July 2014,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Most of the crashes on this section of the highway, which is within the Kosciuszko National Park, occur when motorists lose control around the curves and this work will address that.”
Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 5pm until early May, weather permitting.
“For the safety of workers and motorists, changed traffic conditions will be in place including traffic control, lane closures and a reduced 40 km/h speed limit during work hours,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Motorists should ensure they follow the direction of traffic control and reduced speed limits.”
The community is thanked for its patience while work is carried out.
