“This is an annual event for the young people of the community that is organised by the Deb Ball Committee made up of the St Joseph’s School Community Council and the Catholic ladies,” Deb Ball trainer, Janet Lomas said.
Nine debutantes from Bombala High School and their partners made their official entrance into society.
They were Bree-Ann Standen and Jackson Standen; Abbey Boreham and Logan Brownlie; Jazzy Thompson and Zac McGowan; Caitlin Regent and Jack Camp; Martina Tomassi and Billy Hines; Mackenzie Hampshire and Charlie Peisley; Chloe Day-Edgecombe and Tye Standen; Georgia Jones and Blake Stevenson and Lakeisha Clear and Dylan Elton.
Parish Priest of St Mary’s and Delegate churches, Fr Mick MacAndrew officially opened the ball. The couples entered the hall through an archway made by debutante father, Ben Edgecomb.
“The decorations were colourful and fun with the theme this year a country rustic look with pink, white and beige accents,” Ms Lomas said.
Kinder students Lucas Tucker, April Kimber, Dusty Voveris, Amber Phillips, Asher Caldwell and Harry Edgecombe from St. Joseph’s Primary School, Bombala preceded the debutante’s through the arch and later provided entertainment for everyone performing a dance to ‘Cotton Eyed Joe’.
“The debutante’s and their partners danced four dances starting with the traditional ‘Pride of Erin Waltz’, ‘Country Waltz’ and the ‘Cha Cha.
“The Cha Cha was a highlight of the night with the song they chose to do it to, ‘Moves Like Jagger’ by Maroon 5 proving popular.
“The debutante’s then danced with their special adult dancing a variation of the ‘Valetta’,” Ms Lomas said.
Lakeisha Clear gave the Deb speech, thanking everyone involved and Georgia Jones and Blake Stevenson but the cake made by Amy Stone. Trainers were Julia Merritt, Danny Farrell and Janet Lomas.
