The University of Canberra is looking to strengthen its ties with the Snowy Monaro region when its Vice Chancellor, Deep Saini, makes his first visit to Cooma this week.

Vice Chancellor Saini started his role in September last year and his trip to Cooma today will be his first regional visit.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council is looking forward to welcoming Professor Saini to the region with tours set down for Snowy Monaro Universities Centre, Cooma TAFE Illawarra campus and Monaro High School.
Professor Saini will join Snowy Monaro Regional Council administrator Dean Lynch, local school principals and business leaders for lunch. Administrator Lynch said he is looking forward to meeting with Professor Saini and showcasing what the region has to offer the university.
“This will be a fantastic opportunity to show the University of Canberra how the Snowy Monaro is playing a leading role in offering tertiary education options for rural students,” administrator Lynch said.
“I look forward to showing off our local education facilities and discussing ways we can build closer links with the University of Canberra. A lot of locals head off to the university and it’s an important part of our region.”
The visit begins with a tour of the Snowy Monaro Universities Centre where chair of the board, Duncan Taylor, will deliver a presentation on the education model the centre uses and how it’s being used to further tertiary education options across regional/rural NSW.
Following the visit to the universities centre, the delegation will meet with Cooma Tafe Illawarra staff at the Cooma campus. A tour of the facility and discussion will take place before the business lunch. To round off the Cooma visit, Professor Saini will head to Monaro High School to meet with Principal Adrian Bell.
