This year’s Delegate Duck Race at Bill Jeffrey Park on Good Friday has been hailed the most successful one yet.

Organisers said there was a record crowd that culminated in two boat races being held followed by a grand final race held.
Enough ducks were sold so that three Duck Races were held and the fishing comp resulted in winners.
“This is an annual fundraiser for the Delegate Public School has been a great event for the P&C fundraising efforts,” organiser Su King said.
“The weather was perfect and the community is awesome,” she said.
The day began with a weigh-in for the newly formed Delegate Fishing Angling Club.
The Angling Club were happy with the day and their fundraising efforts.
“The fisho’s sold meat raffles and vegetable raffles and are now in a better position financially thanks to the club having a sell-out barbecue lunch,” Ms King said.
“After the fish were weighed-in, it was time for the kids.
“Over 40 boats made by the youngsters themselves, got to showcase their efforts in the boat parade.
“Prizes for various age groups made their efforts more worth the while for their creativity.
“While the boats were out, it was straight into racing with the under 7’s going first, followed by the 8’s and up.
“Four boats from each race went into a final decider grand final race.
“This years winners were Bella and Lola Tonnisen, Ajay Camm and Riley Morel,” Ms King said.
Enough ducks for two races were sold out before the event with each race having 80 ducks competing.
“There was a third race when the crowd started buying more ducks proving the duck race to be one of the more popular events on the day,” Ms King said.
“A record 240 ducks were raced this year and prizes were allocated to a record 75 ducks this year,” she said.
First place in each of the three duck races received $250. The winners were: Race 1 Lydia Jamieson; Race 2 Grantley Ingram and Race 3 Charlie Ingram-Bates.
Finally the organisers would also like to thank the ongoing support of the community who keep buying ducks, building boats and turning up each year to this growing event.

“With the support of these businesses, the Delegate Duck Race continues to be successful each year,” Ms King said.
