The day turned out to be a mixed bag of results with both the High Heelers and Bombala Reserves being defeated, leaving it to the Blue’s first graders to save the day.
It was going to be a mammoth task for the Bombala lads to take victory on Moruya’s home turf with the Sharks not having being beaten at home for a few years.
The Sharks started the game out strong with the team gaining points in the first eight minutes with a classy chip, chase and regather, however Bombala soon found their rhythm with Luke Ingram making a forcible run taking the ball metres.
Andrew Guthrie kicked high perfectly positioning the ball for Sami Buinimasi to pounce, putting first points on the board for the Blue Heelers.
Wame Belolevu’s conversion evened the score to six all before Moruya’s hooker Luke Jay came from dummy half to score 10 to 6.
A great combination between Paul Perkins to Luke Ingram saw Ingram muscle over to put the Heelers ahead at half time 12-10.
Moruya came back strong in the second half and edged back in front 14 -12 before tempers flared and two players were sin binned.
After 10 minutes of very physical play the home team scored outside, edging in front 18-12.
Bombala’s Zac Slater found himself in a position to chip for himself and flop on top to score, however a Moruya defender held him back by the shirt.
The referee eventually awarded a try to the Heelers locking the scores back at 18 all.
The momentum shifted in the Heelers favour and Tyler Jones scored under the posts to take the lead for the Heelers 24 to 18 followed by another try by Adam Rodwell who scored for the Heelers giving them a well earned victory 30 to 18.
Players player and three points went to new recruit Blake Robinson, two points went for Jackson Standen and one point went to the fierce Adam Rodwell.
Next week Bombala takes on the Cooma Fillies and Stallions in Cooma for the Heritage round on Saturday.
