A synthetic ice rink will be planted on top of the Novotel, transforming their rooftop terrace, The Deck, into a winter wonderland with glistening views of the ocean.

Owner of the SlickIce rink Peter Lynch said it was the first time he’d ever been asked to put the 10m by 20m attraction on the top of a building.

“The SlickIce rink is the same as used for [world renowned violinist] Andre Rieu’s world stadium tour and provides a wonderful ice skating experience,” Mr Lynch said.

For the little ones who might be new to skating, penguins will be on hand to guide them around the rink to minimise falling over.

But how does one get a rink up so high you ask?

Mr Lynch said the giant synthetic surface is able to be broken down to sheet form taken up by elevator.

There is no ice involved but Mr Lynch said identical skates are used to glide over the treated surface just like you would over a frozen ice-rink.

The hotel will be offereing sessions throughout July with tickets including skate hire.

Themed food and drink will also be available, from fairy floss to novelty hot chocolates.

Warrawong Plaza was the last Illawarra venue to host a similar rink, during the winter school holidays in 2016.
