As a young Danish woman, Yoke travelled to Israel in 1976 to live freely on the land in a kibbutz, similar to a farm commune. It was there she met her husband plus many life-long friends.

Now living in Australia she continues to share her love for the country and it’s culture.

One way she does this is through the annual Israeli Film Festival – this year on August 5 at the University of Wollongong.

Mrs Berry said it was important to share and celebrate different cultures in society.

“Everyone has a story, everyone has memories and they would like to share that with people who have similar stories or memories and the film festival is a way,” she said.

“It gives the opportunity for people to express that love and affinity to a country.”

The films on show include A Tale of Love and Darkness starring Natalie Portman, and Wedding Doll starring Moran Rosenblatt and Roy Assaf.

While a supper of traditional foods like hummus, mini challah rolls, kugels and cheesecakes will also be on offer.
