The High Heelers were forced to play 2 games in a row on Sunday displaying class football in both games. The first game was against the Narooma She-devils. The Bombala girls came out of the sheds firing, showcasing their brilliant defensive efforts not letting the coastal girls penetrate their line once. As they were patient in attack, gaining good consistent field possession the points would soon flood in. Try scorers for this game saw Tash Stewart take a double, Sam Stewart bagged points taking a great high ball, Georgie Clarke would stride away out wide to score, Patrice Clear was able to duck and weave through defenders for her own try, Georgia Jones finished off a great play out wide to score and Monique Perkins was able to lunge through defenders untagged to score last points. The final score ended 36-0. Players Player and 3 points went to Sam Stewart who played a very consistent game, not only scoring points but proved safe in defence and under the high ball. 2 points went to try scoring speedster Tash Stewart (sponsored by Raw Strength & Fitness) and 1 point was shared between Trina Brownlie (sponsored by Brownlie Border Leicester Stud) who made some great line breaks, Kayley Keavey (sponsored by High Country Pregnancy Scanning) safe as houses under the high ball and with precision tagging and Monique Perkins (sponsored by Fortitude Physiotherapy) who was always dangerous with the ball in her hands.
The second game was against the Candelo-Bemboka girls. The Bombala girls showed just what great depth they have across this team this year, coming out firing and again not letting any points in. The defence in particular of Keiarna Rodwell, Lucy Sellers and Abbey Kimber was outstanding. This made way for superstar Patrice Clear to do her thing in attack scoring another 2 tries. Amy Stone had a fantastic running game, constantly breaking the line and able to duck and weave away from defenders bagging 2 of her own 4 pointers. Georgia Jones and Aimee Badewitz are proving a fantastic assets to this Heelers outfit finishing off plays brilliantly both scoring tries out wide. Kristy Nichols showed fantastic support play, backing up the skipper to score her own four pointer under the black dot. As in the first game the Heelers won convincingly at 36-0. 3 points and players player went to Amy Stone (sponsored by Bibbenluke Stock Horse Stud), 2 points went to Patrice Clear (sponsored by Clear Cut Electrical) and 1 point went to Keiarna Rodwell (sponsored by Rodwell Haulage and Plant Hire).
Reserve Grade
The Bombala Reserve Grade team finished the season not necessarily the way the would have liked to, going down to a very strong Candelo-Bemboka team 40-0. Plagued by injury from the outset the reigning grand-finalists found it extremely hard to find momentum this year. Captain Coach Korie Elton did a tremendous job working with a team that was hardly ever the same line up week to week. First grade Captain Coach Joe Bobbin showed his appreciation and pointed out the fact that First Grade is going well is on the back of great depth and support always shown from the Reserve Grade Team. Whilst the return of Mick Sullivan helped boost the team on Sunday as well as fantastic efforts from the likes of Slade Newton and Digby Walcott, the away team was too dominant from the outset. Players play and 3 points went to Slade (sponsored by John Ingram), 2 points went to Mick (sponsored by J & R Guthrie) and 1 point went to Digby (sponsored by Letompe).
First Grade
Whilst the Bombala First Grade team had already secured the second spot on the ladder heading into finals – they were determined to finish the round games on a high against the Narooma Devils. Resting various players with injuries, the line-up was slightly altered but this did not deter their efforts. 8 minutes in Wame Belolevu would muscle his way over- converting his try Bombala would lead 6-0. Moments later Nick Ryan would throw a great dummy and went himself gaining great metres for his team, not long after Joe Bobbin could not be stopped bagging a try 15 minutes in. Aborosio Navori was outstanding again for the Heelers making some great yards hitting the ball up. One of these runs would allow the ball to be spread wide to the other wing where Alex Rosten would stride away and find the ever reliable Tyler Jones backing up on the inside who would end up scoring under the posts. At 14-0 the Bombala lads were looking comfortable. The Fijian trio were a force to be reckoned with with Sami Buinimasi also making some formidable runs busting open the defence. Bailey Jones was another standout – safe as houses returning the ball but also able to carve the defence open with his brilliant running game. Eventually Joe Bobbin would find the line again taking the score to 20-0. Just before half time Narooma would find Bombala napping scoring a soft try out numbering defence. The half time score was 20-6. The next half saw areas of brilliance from the home team as well as lapses in defence and switching off allowing Narooma to put more points on the board. Paul Perkins made some great runs in attack and proved very safe in defence. Adam Rodwell was again fantastic, not only charging the ball up but always there backing up and supporting his team mate – Rodwell ended up with his own well deserved 4 pointer by the end of the game. Joe Bobbin would end up with a hat trick playing a fantastic attacking game. Brett Hodak was very reliable in carting the ball up making great metres and too strong for defence allowing him a try also. Blake Robinson continues to be a great asset in steering the boys around the paddock and his kicking game is always pivotal to the Heelers field possession. The final score ended a solid 50-22 in the Heelers favour. Players player and 3 points went to Aborosio Navori (sponsored by Dungaree Pastoral) 2 points went to Bailey Jones (sponsored by the Delegate Hotel) and 1 point was shared between Paul Perkins (sponsored by MCH Welding) and Adam Rodwell (sponsored by Southern Stockyards & Fencing).
