‘Bust, Box or Square’ event raises $6,000

AFTER weeks of exciting lead up, the ‘Bust, Box or Square for Cancer Care’ Exhibition and Auction again proved itself a creative and colourful way to support local charity, raising an incredible $6000 for its cause!

With busy locals having lovingly decorated busts, boxes and squares for the charity event, the resulting display was an impressive and diverse collection of unique artworks.

These were enjoyed by an enthusiastic crowd who attended the public auction last Thursday evening, as well as numerous others who drifted through the exhibition right throughout the weekend.

Best of all was the huge amount the event raised, with all of this money going directly towards the care of locals affected by cancer through the Southern Monaro Community Fund.

While all entries were admired, and most of them sold, there were some outstanding pieces, with the following being awarded prizes –

Busts: Most Spectacular, Lisa Cottrell; Most Unusual, Nancy Badewitz; Prettiest, Meryl Helmers; Most Original, Janet MacGregor.

Boxes: Most Spectacular, Community Contact Group; Most Unusual, Alma Reed and Evelyn Walker; Prettiest, Community Contact Group; Most Original, Summer Ruggi.

Organisers have of course been delighted with the result of this year’s Bust, Box or Square event, with coordinator, Carol Badewitz sharing a few words of thanks with us here –

“To all you wonderful people out there who supported the event this year.  Once again it was amazing, with 30 Bust entries, 25 Canvases and 24 Boxes — all beautiful creations.

$6,000 will go to the Community Fund making a total in 20 months of $13,000. WOW!

Thanks to all the people who contributed in any way to make this year’s event so profitable.

To Scott and staff for their assistance with the Auditorium, to Jono and staff for the eats etc, always willing and happy to fit in with requests.

Our special thanks to Dina, Arthur and staff at Cosmo, where we spent many hours over many months decorating. Their contribution towards this event was enormous.

To Jenny, Dick and staff; Kim, David and Lindy; Carol, Rick and Terry; all played a big part in the pre-Auction Night.

To Sam and Meryl at the paper who were full of encouragement and support from the beginning, always happy to greet you, very generous with display and storage areas, write-ups in the paper and general help. Thank you both a million.

Thanks to all those who made very generous monetary donations.

To Kay for the beautiful flower arrangements.

Special thanks to Lainie Lawson of Nimmitabel who came along on Thursday morning to do the judging.

To all the friends you can’t do without, and who sat for hours over eight months cutting, folding, sticking, gluing, designing, decorating, a big thank you!

Thank you to all who came along on the night, to those who purchased at Auction and those who enjoyed watching the fun.

Todd did the honours of Auctioneer — thank you Todd and also to Francis who did the running and to Jody who did the writing. And to those who helped put everything together and took it back down again.

To Jim who did the washing up, put the washing out and brought the washing in — thank you!

Without all of you together we would not have had such a successful night.”
