Thanks to NSW Government funding through the Regional Communities Fund, the Cooma Monaro Railway was granted $28,292 to complete a heritage master plan and a track maintenance and repair plan, through the engagement of a Heritage Consultant and Track Engineers.
“The Cooma Monaro Railway is a volunteer led organisation with a focus on community engagement,” Mr Barilaro said.
“This funding is the NSW Government’s way of supporting the Cooma Monaro Railway as they work to benefit the Cooma region and the wider Monaro by attracting visitors to the railway.
“The Cooma Monaro Railway seeks to work to become an integral part of the region through tourism and public engagement, and this funding will help them to do so.
“I congratulate the Cooma Monaro Railway and the volunteers involved on their hard work and dedication to the organisation. I look forward to seeing the master plans for the upgrades to the Cooma yard precinct and Cooma to Rock Flat track that they are able to organise thanks to this funding.
The Cooma Monaro Railway has engaged Transport Heritage NSW to find an innovative adaptive reuse of the Cooma railway precinct. Additionally, the Cooma Monaro Railway has engaged the services of local Snowy Monaro heritage consultant Suzannah Plowman to complete the heritage master plan.
Parliamentary Secretary for Southern NSW Hon Bronnie Taylor MLC joined Mr Barilaro to announce the funding.
“The Cooma Monaro Railway is a great opportunity to expand tourism in the Cooma region and I am pleased that the NSW Government is helping with funding towards this worthy goal.” Mrs Taylor said.
