THE Southern Mountains Rally is once again bringing thrills galore to the area as it returns to the fast running forests of Eden and Bombala this Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and 4.
Locals can watch up close as these talented rally drivers, including Bombala’s Mal Hurley, show their stuff with rarely seen spectacular driving skills.
We will also be able to enjoy checking out the cars and crews during scheduled rest stops in both Bombala and Cathcart.
The Rally will start Saturday at the Eden Fisherman’s Club, and travel through four townships, over 650kms distance, returning to Eden at the Country Golf Club on Sunday.
The cars will travel over 300 competitive kilometres on some of the best and fastest roads in Australia.
Crews will be tested throughout no less than 12 separate forestry regions with 18 stages non-repeated. Typical road conditions will take them from fast sweeping open roads to very tricky forestry stages.
Spectator instructions with a map can be found on the website www.southernmountainsrally2012, which will give details on where you can watch the action out on the road.
The rallyers will also have a rest stop at the recreation ground of the Bombala Apex Park from around 4pm, with everyone encouraged to come along and really see the cars up close.
Finally, there will be a dinner break on Saturday evening at Cathcart where you can also come share a meal and meet the crews in person, so everyone is encouraged to join this gathering from 6pm as well.
Remember, all the details for spectators are at www.southernmountainsrally2012 so check it out, get amongst the rally action this weekend and show Mal and Bernie Hurley some support as they compete!
