The Blue Heelers claimed their grand final spot after heading down the mountain to Moruya on Sunday to play the Merimbula/Pambula Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs were the first to put points on the board, then scoring again on the back of Bombala unforced errors putting the Bulldogs in the lead 12-0.
However, that’s where they remained as the Blue Heelers forged ahead to win 16-12.
Bombala’s Wame Belolevu found himself five metres out from the line and was able to carry numerous defenders over the line to put first points on the board for the Heelers.
While Alex Rosten scored between the sticks for the Heelers and the men headed to the sheds 12-all at half time.
In the second half, lightning pace by Bailey Jones to Andrew Guthrie saw him side stepping multiple defenders and finding the line for the Heelers, giving them a four point lead, 16-12, which they held on to until the final bell.
Captain/coach Joe Bobbin said the Heelers have the ability to win the grand final against Cooma, in Bega on Sunday.
“The last two games that we have played against Cooma have been very competitive and Cooma is a very similar team to Bombala, so it’s going to be a tough game.
“Basically I think whoever wants it best will come away with the trophy,” he said.
Bombala’s second team in the 2017 Group 16 grand final is the ladies league tag Bombala High Heelers playing the Moruya Sharkettes.
High Heelers captain Patrice Clear said she thought the team were really well prepared.
“We’ve had new players come into the side and injuries suffered over the year so it has been a really big effort to get where we are now.
“If we do the simple things right and follow our coach’s instructions and we play the level of footy we know we can, I am confident that with my girls we can win,” Clear said.
Bombala Blue Heelers Rugby League Football Club president Colin Ryan said the Heelers were positive.
“It’s the build up of the year and everyone is really keen for a good day,” he said.
In other weekend results the Moruya Sharkettes defeated the Bega Chicks 12 to 8 in the ladies league tag.
The Batemans Bay Tigers defeated the Narooma Devils 28 to 4 in the Under 18s and in reserve grade the Candelo-Bemboka Panthers defeated the Merimbula-Pambula Bullants 34 to 22.
The women kick-off on Sunday at 9.30am, be there to support them to finish the season in top spot.
Bombala will feature three of its own in the game at 11am where Logan Brownlie, Charlie Peisley and Blake Stevenson will play for the Merimbula/Pambula Bulldogs against the Batemans Bay Tigers under 18s.
First grade is set to kick off at 2.45pm. See you all on Sunday, go the mighty Heelers.
