On Sunday, August 20, Australia’s longest running motoring event will bound into Bombala, stopping for lunch at the RSL.
It’s all part of an epic giving journey from Melbourne to Fraser Island, which will see Variety – the Children’s Charity give out over $160,000 in grants to schools and organisations along the way.
Having left Lakes Entrance bound for Narooma, entrants will roll into town around midday to enjoy lunch at the Bombala RSL, where the locals are encouraged to head laong and meet the bevvy of colourful characters and their cars before they head off on the next leg of their journey.
Over 250 loud and proud entrants will take part in the event this year, dressed in full costume from start to finish – a spectacle the school children they visit along the route really look forward to seeing.
The Bash always features a throng of colourful characters, and this year the Bash will feature Smurfs, characters from Sesame Street, the Blues Brothers, The Flintstones and many more!
The Bash can inject up to $35,000 per town along the route, and these funds enable local community groups to do great work in improving town infrastructure or initiating community projects.
The Variety Bash is Australia’s largest and longest-running motoring event. Over the last 27 years, the Variety Bash has raised over $23 million for children in need and travelled over 105,000 kilometres across our great continent. In 2016, the Variety Bash raised $1.3million for children in Victoria.
The Variety Bash 2017 leaves from Epping on Friday, passing through Traralgon and Lakes Entrance before the Bombala pitstop.
Then it’s on to Narooma, Canberra, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour and Toowoomba.
The convoy is scheduled to arrive at Fraser Island on August 25 and will enjoy a final party on the Saturday night.
Variety is dedicated to empowering children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn through the provision of equipment, life experiences and a grants program.
