For two teams, it was the continuation of an undefeated streak more than 16 weeks in the making, with the other two finals wrapping up a season-long rivalry.
In first grade, the Cooma Stallions – undefeated for the entire regular season – were in charge for the first half, leading 26-6 shortly after the break, before the Blue Heelers rallied valiantly.
Karlos Filiga was named man of the match after a dominant display in the centres for the Stallions, while Tim Knight had some exceptional surges through the middle before coming off after a head-knock.
According to spectators, Bombala’s first graders were solid, but looked a little shaken in defence early.
They were hard-pressed to stop Knight, Corey Thomas and Filiga, who all had big runs.
Bombala captain and coach Joe Bobbin was good as always up the flank, while his number two winger was unlucky to miss a couple of tries and played really well.
Luke Ingram also made some great runs for the Blue Heelers.
Unfortunately, the first grade Bombala Blue Heelers were defeated by the Cooma Stallions 38-18.
However, earlier in the day, the Bombala High Heelers claimed the league-tag premiership 10-6 – but only after almost 30 minutes of extra time.
Discipline proved costly for the Moruya Sharkettes, where surprisingly a player from each side was binned, but a Moruya centre was subsequently sent from the field.
The penalty gave the High Heelers a way back in with Kiarna Rodwell slotting a two-pointer after the siren to level the scores at 6-6.
The Sharkettes had led 6-4 after scoring a penalty goal with both sides proving near-faultless with their defence as the two tries had only come through errors.
Amy Stone was named woman of the match for a standout performance for the Heelers.
In other grand finals on the day, the Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs under 18s claimed a four-point win over the Bay Tigers in a game that was marred by two on-field brawls, which resulted in two players binned and a young Tiger sent from the field.
Aggression got the better of the Tigers late into the second half as the Bulldogs held out a slim lead.
The final score was 22-18.
Reserve grade saw the biggest score of the day and a surprise finish as the Bega Roosters ran rampant over the Candelo-Bemboka Panthers to win 42-12.
The Roosters shot to the lead early, but the Panthers made their presence felt and replied quickly.
However, the home side began to take control in the second half with Scott Ingram making a huge impact, while coach Scott Barton was named man of the match for his efforts at hooker.
