Although Tim the Yowie Man doesn’t think Burnima is Australia’s most famous haunted house he said he didn’t think he would spend the night there and wonders how owner Steve Rickett manages to.
According to Tim the most haunted house in Australia is the stately Monte Christo Homestead that overlooks the small township of Junee.
“While the Monte Christo deserves its status as Australia’s most haunted house, Burnima, a lesser-know but equally historic New South Wales country mansion runs a close second,” Tim said.
He also said that he thought Burnima was an undiscovered gem for lovers of the paranormal.
“It’s not as well know as other haunted houses like the Monte Christo Homestead because it is hard to get to, a fair way away and off the road.
“But when people go there for the first time they are literally blown away by the house,” he said.
Member for Eden Monaro, Dr Mike Kelly recently launched Haunted and Mysterious Australia, and Tim the Yowie Man has been making an online series about places he has mentioned in the book.
The mini-documentary is coming out on YouTube towards the end of October and the first episode is about Bombala’s Burnima Homestead.
“Treasures like Burnima are rare in a country like ours with such a short European history. Without dedicated, or dare I say it, obsessed custodians like Steve Rickett to maintain and restore them, our rural heritage would be much the poorer for it.”
