“Once again the sponsors have made a significant contribution to the races and this year we’re pleased to have some new sponsors on deck.
“It will be a six race meet featuring the Dongwha Timbers Bombala Cup,” he said.
The 2017 Bombala Races will be run much the same as they have in previous years with Fashions on the Field, a jumping castle for the kids, the marquee serving seafood platters and food stalls by the local schools.
“It’s great to have a new younger element on the Bombala Jockey Club Committee,” Mr Baines said. “It has really helped with the new enthusiasm.”
“Our new president Brad Yelds has been instrumental in gathering the support of a new generation of committee representatives which we believe is vital for the long term interest of the club.”
“Nominations are good for four races (45 in total) but have been extended for two which only currently have five each.
“Support from local area trainers is great, and as always Canberra, the coast and West Gippsland are well represented.
“We have a Bombala entry for the Cup, trained by Anita Walder, which will add interest to the race,” Mr Baines said.
“Particular thanks go to our major sponsor Dongwha Timbers, along with other long time local supporters Village Ford, Murphy's Transport, Wilton Logging, Monaro Wool/Shute Bell, Bombala RSL Club, and Landmark. New sponsor Bombala Electric is a welcome addition.”
For bookings to the marquee at Saturday’s races call Pia Jackson, club secretary on 0439 496 349.
Fashions on the Field sponsored by Barb Joseph will run much as it has in previous years with the Bird’s Nest sponsoring the Best Hat category.
