“Probably the most important factor was the weather. The rain during the week had really invigorated the countryside, and resulted in perfect track conditions.
“The conditions on race day were ideal - about 20 degrees with a light breeze, which put the crowd in a relaxed mood. Attendance was excellent and the marquee was fully booked,” Mr Baines said.
“The local races were well supported by trainers form Canberra, the coast, Gippsland, and the local area.
“It was satisfying to see that those who travelled from as as far apart as Braidwood and Bairnsdale rewarded with winners.
“The Joseph and Jones team which has its roots in Bombala provided two winners,” he said.
The race winners were:
MonaroWool/Schute Bell/Landmark Maiden - Suri trained by Dan Cunningham, Bairnsdale
Village Ford/Bombala Electrical and Hardware - John Boy trained by Jackson Pallot, Bairnsdale
Club Bombala Benchmark 49 - Smiling at Shadows trained by Joseph and Jones, Sapphire Coast
Wilton Logging Benchmark 50 - Rushman trained by James Curtis, Moruya
Dongwha Timbers Bombala Cup - Black Dragon trained by Aaron Clarke, Braidwood
Murphy's Transport and Building Supplies Class1/Maiden - Le Sacre Blur trained by Joseph and Jones, Sapphire Coast
“Particular acknowledgement must go to all those who put in great voluntary efforts to prepare for the day. It was so pleasing to see new faces involved which is so important for the long term continuity.
“We are naturally as always truly grateful to all our sponsors, especially major sponsor Dongwha Timbers, without whose contribution the club would not be viable in its present form and our ability to improve our amenities would be severely restricted,” Mr Baines said.
