Mr Barilaro, who inspected the roadwork sites in Jindabyne, said the investment by the NSW Government will reduce travel times, improve safety and reduce congestion along critical road networks.

He said $10 million in funding will see the construction of a new westbound lane of Kosciuszko Road between Barry Way and Alpine Way as well as fund significant roads upgrades and safety improvements. A further $4 million will see the construction of a new 1.5 kilometre westbound overtaking lane on Kosciuszko Road, west of Slacks Creek at Coolringdon.

“This is a significant amount of funding and it is great news for people living in and travelling through the area,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The upgrades are part of a $20 million package allocated for new overtaking lanes which will improve safety on Kosciuszko Road and the Monaro Highway,” he said.

Work started on Monday, October 16 and will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays until June 2018, excluding public holidays and weather permitting. The road will be open during winter next year to accommodate high volumes of traffic heading to and from the snowfields. Work will then resume in October next year after the snow season ends.

Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government is also providing $1.9 million to fund work to strengthen and widen a 1.6 kilometre section of the Snowy Mountains Highway through Adaminaby.

“The Snowy Mountains Highway upgrade will provide 3.25 metre travel lanes, one metre road shoulders and connect to the previously widened sections of the highway to the east and west of Adaminaby,” Mr Barilaro said.

“It’s great to see these important roadworks are underway. The safety of people travelling along these roads is of the utmost importance to the NSW Government and I look forward to seeing work on these roads progress.”

This work is starting today and will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 6pm, weather permitting. Work will close down for the summer holidays from Monday, December 18 until mid-January.
