The recipients from across the Monaro were honoured with Monaro Service Awards for their outstanding contribution to the community.

Among the recipients were Cynthia Dolan for her service to sport and for bringing Tai Chi to the residents in Bombala, Bibbenluke and Delegate.

“Her service has been part of the Southern NSW Local Health District Falls Prevention Strategy and her hard work is greatly appreciated,” Mr Barilaro said.

Arthur Dracopoulos was also recognised for his work to promote community safety.

Arthur established the Bombala Scooter Club after being concerned about the safety of senior scooter drivers.

The club promotes safe scooter use and organises social outings for its members, with Arthur providing afternoon tea for the club’s monthly meetings.

Dalgety’s Julie Pearson was also recognised for her outstanding dedication to the Dalgety community.

Ms Pearson started the Dalgety Chamber of Commerce and heritage trails and has contributed to a range of different projects including Iona Gardens.

The organisers of the new Bombala Markets, Geraldine Dyer, Shirley Badewitz, Tanya Ingram and Helen Stevenson were recognised for the work they ave done in organising and running the successful Bombala markets that have given local businesses and the town a boost with increased visitation and opportunities for locals.

Nimmitabel’s Vickie Pollard was recognised for her service to the Nimmitabel community. Vickie is involved in a number of local community groups including the Nimmitabel Advancement Group of which she is president.

Ms Pollard has also successfully applied for a number of grants to improve facilities at Nimmitabel.

Pamela Brayshaw is a hardworking volunteer for a number of Adaminiby including the Adaminiby Friendship Dance and Picnic, the Red Cross branch, the public school and CWA just to name a few.

A group award was also given to the Rotary Club of Bombala who work tirelessly for the Bombala community throughout the year.

“The Monaro Service Award is a small way of thanking volunteers for what they do,” Mr Barilaro said.

“These people go above and beyond the definition of their role with little recognition to make the community they live in a better place. The award recipients are dedicated to their calling and make a difference to the local community; I congratulate and thank them for their efforts.”

Areas of service included the SES, Men’s Sheds, Servicemen’s Clubs, the Salvation Army, local scouts groups, charities, animal rescue and care, the CWA, local events, and sports including cricket, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, archery, running and horse riding.

“Behind the scenes of every community event, activity or fundraiser is a team of hard-working volunteers. It was a pleasure to be able to join some of these volunteers and formally thank them for their contribution to our community.”
