Pedestrian killed in Monterey

A man has died after he was hit by a truck while walking across a road in Sydney's south on Wednesday.

Police said the man died at the scene after he was struck on the The Grand Parade at Monterey about 2pm.

The truck driver is not believed to have been injured but was taken to hospital for mandatory blood tests.

The details leading up to the incident are not yet known but police crash investigators have begun investigations.

All northbound lanes on The Grand Parade were closed for more than an hour and drivers were urged to avoid the area.

Traffic was heavy for motorists heading towards the city, a Transport Management Centre spokeswoman said.

Cars were being diverted at Ramsgate Road and heavy vehicles were being directed to use Rocky Point Road as an alternative route.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
