Jarryd is Origin's new King: Johns

June 15 2014 - 3:00am

League Immortal Andrew Johns has declared Jarryd Hayne's performance in Origin I as the finest individual game he has seen from a Blues player. And he has challenged Hayne to do it again by involving himself for the entire game in the second match on Wednesday night. Johns has gone a step further and said that Hayne is the best player that he has watched. ''Jarryd Hayne is the most complete player I've seen … he's got size, strength, vision … he's got everything,'' Johns said. ''He understands the game. The big challenge for Jarryd is that he drifts in and out of the game. He needs to be involved for the entire 80 minutes. He needs to do that again on Wednesday night. Origin I he stayed in the game for 80 minutes and we will talk about that for hundreds of years to come. It was an unbelievable game. They talk about great Origin performances, well what we saw from Jarryd was that. It's the same as what 'The King' did [in 1989] when Queensland … when they all got injured. It was one of the great individual Origin performances and it won't be forgotten. He is so good that I think if he'd played game two and game three last year we would have won the series.'' Hayne is ready to take up the challenge - he won't rest on what he did. ''I've watched what I did, but I've picked up errors in my game,'' he said. ''Things I can do better. It's a business what we do and I have to keep my head on. The way you are put on a pedestal. Media has gone to another level, social media especially. I read an article where 'Choppy' Close said he had the same stats that I did and he didn't get the same attention in the media. I'm also sure that I didn't celebrate as hard as he did. It's a different time.'' Hayne isn't whining about the scrutiny. ''It's part of the game,'' he said. Nor is he fazed by the pressure. ''It's what we are paid to do,'' he said.
