Farms with a Future is run by SCPA-South East Producers which secured funding through South East Local Land Services to assist farmers to improve the soil quality, water retention and environmental biodiversity on their farms.
By attending a Ground Work Day and submitting your ideas for your farm property, producers will be in the running for $1000 towards the cost of engaging a consultant to further develop their plans and up to $4000 towards the cost of implementing the plan and hosting a Ground Work Day on their property.
This property has undergone massive changes since the current owners Dave Charlton and Lisa Roberts took over in December 2013.
They are creating their vision of organic polyculture.
The farm is planned as a mixed use polyculture involving a variety of livestock and plants.
On the day participants will explore the implementation of a range of sustainable farming practices including:
- Making lactobacillus serum for improving pasture production and making compost;
- Using dairy effluent to produce azolla – a water weed - which can be used in making compost and as a stock feed; and
- A farm walk with owners to hear about what needs to be done to make this farm more sustainable.
