Farms with a Future is run by SCPA-South East Producers, which secured funding through South East Local Land Services to assist farmers to improve the soil quality, water retention and environmental biodiversity on their farms.
By attending a Ground Work Day and submitting your ideas for improving the environmental sustainability of your property, producers will be in the running for $4000 towards the cost of implementing your plan and hosting a future Ground Work Day on their property, or $1000 towards the cost of implementing some of those ideas.
The next Ground Work Day is on Wednesday, November 23, at “In Fairy Verona” in Verona (south of Cobargo). This property is run by Sandra Gauld who sells market garden produce at local farmers markets, to stores and to box order customers. There are plans for future additions to the market garden, egg production and hopefully goat meat production.
The focus for the Ground Work Day is on heavy soil management, water storage repair and market garden establishment.
Activities on the day could include preparing and applying soil amendments, setting up irrigation lines, planting out seedlings and mulching.
For information and to register go to farmswithafuture.scpa.org.au. Cost is $20 per person and the day is fully catered.
Inquiries to farmswithafuture@scpa.org.au or Carolyn Wells on (02) 4476 2475.
Farms with a Future is part of the $125 million of National Landcare Programe investment that Local Land Services is delivering to boost farm gate productivity and improve environmental health across NSW.
