Last Monday, an excited group of year 5 students from Bombala and Delegate Public Schools set off to Berridale for an exciting, action packed two night excursion to Cooba Sport and Education Centre. Mrs Roberts and Mrs Sellers were the teachers with the group, while Mrs Mikula and Mrs Jones of Delegate also spent a night.

The activities at Cooba are aimed at developing teamwork, safety, resilience, responsibility and a sense of adventure and nicely reflect the school’s Positive, Behaviour for Learning (PBL) values.
Day one activities were the challenging big swing and archery. On Monday evening the pupils enjoyed a games night, with lots of fun challenges.
Day two began with a session on push-bikes. Brandon, the instructor, enjoyed the fact that all the children were riders, and could complete the whole program. The highlight of the day was the Gladiator Challenge with everyone working as teams to get through a series of activities including a vertical rock wall, a huge water slide with a muddy pond at its base and an enormous inflatable course- wet, muddy, exciting, smelly, hilarious and brave. The final activity on this day was the 200 metre flying fox that students found to be an exhilarating experience. After such an action packed day the choice of a movie night was wonderful.
On Day three the group were involved in two shorter activities in the low rope course and team manouevres. Finn and Ella had the groups scampering up the steep little hill behind Cooba seeking secret clues and directions. A favourite quote came from the group who reported in that they were surrounded by a mob of curious kangaroos.
The recreation time on each day was spent in the swimming pool, on the huge inflatable pillow, playing pool, table tennis or putt putt golf and meeting the two Cooba horses Warlock and Western.
The warm, hardworking staff at Cooba strived to get the most from the children, encouraging them to use every opportunity and push their personal limits. The meals were delicious and the accommodation ideal for the children’s needs.
The children received many compliments for their great behavior and regard for each other. With plenty of sleep each night Bombala Public and Delegate School students had a memorable time.
Thanks to Mr Braden and Mrs Tozer for getting everyone to and from camp in the High School and RSL Club bus.
