The Member for Monaro John Barilaro welcomed the $1 billion NSW Government initiative to be allocated in the 2017-18 State Budget.
“Many regional NSW communities face ongoing water security and quality challenges, particularly in times of drought, or have out-dated waste water treatment systems,” Mr Barilaro said
“The NSW Government’s Safe and Secure Water Program gives these communities access to funding to ensure the right water infrastructure in place for their future.”
Mr Barilaro said he will be working right across the electorate so that the highest priority water projects are ready to receive funding under the Safe and Secure Water Program.
Minister for Regional Water Niall Blair said the Safe and Secure Water Program demonstrates the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to grow regional NSW communities and businesses.
“The Safe and Secure Water Program will be delivered in phases, with program guidelines to be released shortly, and funding to be determined on a competitive basis.” Mr Blair said.
“The NSW Government will draw on an innovative new catchment-wide framework to guide the prioritisation of projects, and I encourage participants to think strategically about the projects that benefit regional NSW communities, businesses and industry the most.”
An initial shortlist of eight projects have been identified to go through the project assessment and assurance process to secure funding under the Safe & Secure Water Program.
Program guidelines will be released when expressions of interest open in July.
