The Bombala women were celebrating Women in League and donned pink socks as did the league tag U12s Pink Pups and the U16s Pink Heelers who ran out with the High Heelers as they took to the field to face Eden.
The High Heelers looked strong from the outset taking only four minutes for captain Patrice Clear to slice her way through the Eden defenders to streak away and score opening points. A successful conversion made the score six nil.
Then Tash Stewart grabbed a pass from Georgie Clarke and sped away to score again.
Next points came from a quick penalty tap where Monique Perkins fed an elusive inside ball to Keiarna Rodwell, who caught the defenders out and scored under the posts.
Rodwell managed to bag another try before half time and the Bombala women took to the sheds leading 22 to 0.
After the break the Eden girls came out determined to be a more competitive force.
They scored the first try of the second half as the speed of Angeline Blackburn allowed her to slip past Bombala’s defensive line untagged.
Bombala took the opportunity to try out some different player combinations with last points of the day scored by Bombala’s Monique Perkins bringing the end score 26 to 4.
Unfortunately the Heelers Reserves were forced to sit out this week as Eden had previously forfeited.
First grade
Off the back of their tough, close call last weekend, the Blue Heeler first grade men were determined to continue their great form and prove they are still very much hot contenders this year.
Tyler Jones continued his good form and 15 minutes in he scored and Wame Beloevu converted giving the Heelers a 6 to 0 lead.
It was Zac Slater who positioned himself perfectly to snatch the ball out of the air to score next points.
Paul Perkins had an outstanding game, not only showing solid defence but he was also able to score himself a hat trick of tries as his running game allowed for numerous line breaks.
At half time the Heelers led 16 to 0 only to have Eden come back from half time to find the line twice, closing the gap to 16 to 8.
Good play by Malcolm Stone and Boro Navori saw the Heelers make metres with Joe Bobbin eventually able to score his own four pointer.
It was Bobbin again that busted open the Eden defence and off loaded to Tyler Jones who was never going to be run down.
The final score ended 36 to eight in favour of Bombala.
Next weekend is the last round game of the group 16 season with Bombala coming up against the Narooma Devils at Bombala.
