Rent Choice Youth provides a rental assistance subsidy for up to three years to young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are at risk of homelessness, in addition to support to help them maintain a tenancy and engage in education, training and employment over time.
Mr Barilaro said that Rent Choice Youth was another example of the NSW Government delivering on its commitment to support the vulnerable across the state.
“This subsidy is about intervening early and stopping the cycle of disadvantage before it begins. We want to help vulnerable youth in the area overcome the obstacles to obtaining education and finding a job,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The expansion of Rent Choice Youth into the Monaro and greater Southern NSW will provide much needed relief for disadvantaged young people who are looking to improve their lives.”
Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward said that tackling youth homelessness was a key priority for the NSW Government.
“We know how important it is to provide this support so that young people are not condemned to a lifetime of struggle,” Ms Goward said.
“Reducing youth homelessness is a key priority for the NSW Government and initiatives such as the Rent Choice Youth is just one piece of the puzzle to help assist those in need.”
Rent Choice Youth is an initiative of the NSW Government’s Future Directions for Social Housing in NSW, which sets out the Government’s vision for social housing over the next 10 years.
