“I thought the sale was slightly dearer especially considering the prime market and feedlot entry prices have eased during the past six weeks,” he said.
“There was a lot of interest in the cattle showing breeding, but they were slightly lighter than those offered last year.”
A good run of young steers sold from $1200 to $870 with lighter weight pens selling from $730 to $610. Unjoined heifers sold from $1210 to $770 with lighter weight pens selling to $600. Cows with calves sold from $2400 to $1400.
Top priced pen of steers saw 63 Bongongo-blood Angus 12-13 months and yard weaned sold on account “Kurrajong Grove”, Gundagai for $1200, while their second pen of 33 sold for $1110.
John and Isabelle Crain, “Bangadang”, Adelong sold 19 Hereford steers, 10-12 months, Yulkon Park blood, and estimated to weigh 320kg avg for $1090, while their 12 black baldy steers, 12-14 months, Ireland-blood sold for $1100.
Other good sales of steers included 15 Angus, 10-12 months, Scotts- and Ireland-blood sold on account Darren Crain, “Lownbrae”, Adelong for $1000 and 24 Angus 10-11 months, Bongongo- and Reiland-blood sold on account Tom and Sharon Stacy, “Camelot”, Tumut for $1050.
Top priced pen of heifers at $1210 was paid for 15 Angus, 10-11 months offered on account the Callaway family, “Araluen”, Gilmore via Tumut.
Other good sales of heifers included $950 paid for 16 Angus, Bongongo-blood, 12-13 months sold on account BJ and MJ Boyd, Wyangle via Tumut and $825 paid for 20 black baldy heifers, 10-11 months sold on account KW and PP Miller, “Maroumba” Mt Horeb via Tumut.
The Quilty family, “Westwood”, Adelong sold 20 Poll Hereford heifers, 10-11 months for $860, AJ Beaven, “Carinya East,” Tumbarumba sold 12 Poll Hereford heifers for $770 and the Hartnett family, “Sunnyside”, Adelong, sold 11 Hereford heifers, Yavenvale-blood, 10-11 months for $820.
Robert and Rhonda Webb, “Mundongo”, Tumut sold 11 two year cows with two month calves by Ardenside bulls for $2400, with a second pen of 11 cows with calves selling for $2350
