As I travel throughout the Snowy Monaro, what continually impresses me is the calibre of the region's people. Some of these outstanding community members will be recognised at next week's Australia Day Awards in Centennial Park, Cooma.

Individuals from all walks of life will be honoured for their ongoing contributions to the Snowy Monaro at the awards ceremony on Friday, January 26.
I encourage you all to head along to Centennial Park from 10am to enjoy a range of stalls, activities, live music and the presentation of the awards. There is fun for all the family and the occasion is a fitting opportunity to thank the award recipients for their efforts. I am looking forward to presenting a number of awards myself.
The Australia Day Awards cover a range of fields, from the arts to sport and the emergency services. Of course we look forward to welcoming the Citizen of the Year, but there are others awards to be presented as well. A few of the other awards include: Young Citizen, Community Group, Community Event of the Year.
There are also Australia Day celebrations taking place in the majority of our towns and villages. The barbecues will be fired up as each community comes together.
Our Snowy Monaro Regional Councillors will join locals at these events before heading into Cooma for the official award ceremony. We are fortunate to have an Australia Day Ambassador, in Emma Rossi. Ms Rossi has spent years decades working in the media and has been an advocate for the prevention of domestic violence.
Bombala will continue with tradition and hold their celebrations on the Saturday. For a full list of events taking place across the Snowy Monaro please head along to the Council website or drop by one of our offices.
